Championships Central
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The Maryland acrobatics & tumbling team will head to the upcoming NCATA national championships as the No. 1 overall seed, announced this week. The Terps will compete in the championships at Baylor in Waco, Texas April 27-28.
With their top seed, the Terrapins (8-1) earn a first-round bye and will compete first in the Semifinals at 5 p.m. ET on Friday at the Ferrell Center against either fourth-seeded Quinnipiac or fifth-seeded Azusa Pacific. The winners of Friday's semifinal matchups will compete Saturday afternoon.
Rounding out the seeding, Oregon earned the No. 2 seed, while Fairmont State is the No. 3 seed. Baylor will be the No. 6 seed.
To determine the seeding, all teams' top four overall scores were averaged, but at least two of the scores had to come from a meet in which the team was on the road.
Earlier in the day Saturday, prior to the championship meet, the teams will compete in the event championships. The top four groups in each heat of the acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling rounds will compete for event and heat titles.
The Terrapins will compete in two acro heat finals, two pyramid heat finals, all toss heat finals, and all tumbling heat finals. They received the highest scores of the year in two of the toss heats, and three tumbling heats.
