Maryland volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon announced the hiring of Christie Landry as assistant coach in February of 2011. Entering her second season with the Terps, Landry has an extensive background in both professional and collegiate volleyball and, before joining Maryland, played professionally overseas.
"Christie is a great addition to our program," said Horsmon. "She has played at a very high level from her club experience to college and, until a couple weeks ago, professionally overseas on two different occasions.
"I've always been impressed with Christie's knowledge of the game and I think she will do a tremendous job in training our athletes as well as competing to recruit some of the best volleyball players in the country."
Prior to playing and coaching professionally in Cyprus, Landry worked with the United States National Team in California, assisting in training as well as volleyball data.
Landry also served as an assistant coach with the Northwestern University from 2006-07 and primarily worked with the setters while also assisting in other coaching duties, including recruiting.
In her first season in Evanston, Landry coached setter Stephanie Jurivich who went on to tally the sixth-most assists (1,215) in school history. In 2007, Landry helped freshman Elyse Glab to record 1,209 assists, the seventh-best single-season total in the history of Northwestern's program.
Landry began her collegiate coaching career in 2004 as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky, where she was responsible for setter position as well as the team's travel and equipment operations.
In 2005, Landry joined the University of Nebraska volleyball program as a volunteer coach where she and the team saw great success all season long. Ranked No. 1 in the country for the majority of 2005, Landry and the Cornhuskers advanced to the NCAA Tournament finals.
A 2002 graduate of Michigan State, Landry helped the Spartans to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Landry finished her career at East Lansing in third place on Michigan State's all-time lists in both total assists (3,761) and assists per game (9.62) despite not converting to the setter position until her sophomore year.
