#8/10 Maryland 97, Wagner 24

Head Coach Brena Frese
Opening statement:
“I thought for us it was a great defensive effort today. To be able to hold them to a program record seven points in the first half, they went scoreless the last eight minutes of the game. I thought our defense being able to change it up, utilize our depth within our team we were really able to throw a lot of looks that I thought caught them off guard. I thought on offense we were unselfish, we really got into a better rhythm as the game went on when you talk about six players in double figures and a 24-to-9 assist to turnover ratio. I definitely like the direction we are headed in but also game by game continuing to improve on the little things.”

On the team's depth:
“I’m excited, for when you talk about when you get into some early foul trouble and the ability to have depth at every position I think is key. Different games are going to require different matchups and it maybe from a defensive end and maybe from an offensive end and being able to utilize those lineups to our strengths is big for us.”

On how the team played defensively:
“Our players love playing this style of play, being really active, getting into the passing lanes. I’m not sure I have ever seen us with 24 steals so when you talk about that for our aggressiveness, for teams to be uncomfortable is huge.”

On what the biggest challenge is having depth:
“We’re still learning our team, we’re still learning our best pressing group, our best zone group, our best man group, and different wrinkles that we have. That’s the challenge for us and our staff and our players to continue to be on the same page and continue to build upon it.”

On what she saw from redshirt freshman A'lexus Harrison:
“I’m just really excited about A'lexus. The athleticism jumps out at you first in terms of what she does from the minute she gets on the court and she’s just everywhere. She’s active, she displays tremendous toughness when you talk about her ability to get the loose balls, rebounds, and she just raises our level of play.”

On freshman Kristen Confroy’s play:
“She’s playing well beyond her years as a freshman, playing with a lot of poise; she just has a really high IQ for the game. She knows the right decisions that need to be made and plays within the game and I think that’s the nice thing to be able to see. Sometimes freshman might be geared at one moment and she just understands what play needs to be made at the right time.”

On what the games this weekend showed:
“You really want to be getting everything put together. We know the competition is going to continue to improve as we continue to step out on the floor so to be able to see in your opening weekend convincing, dominating wins are key. Now for us it’s kind of a level of perfection so to speak that we are looking for. I like the fact that these last two games we didn’t play the scoreboard, I thought we competed for 40 minutes and played Maryland basketball.”

On what worked for rebounding today:
“I thought we were a lot more aggressive. It’s a will to want to go get the ball when you talk about the knack for rebounding. I thought we were really aggressive as a team today. We probably had too many go through our hands in the first game but to be able to see that really improve shows what kind of rebounding team we can be.”

Sophomore Guard Lexie Brown
On comfortability on being a key offensive player:
"For this team it's easy. I wouldn't consider myself the focal point of the offense because you can see everybody has the ability to score in double figures. It's fun for me to get the game started off and then be able to distribute and let everybody follow my lead."

Sophomore Center Brionna Jones
On thoughts for today productivity:
" I think it was just my teammates finding me when I was open and then me trying to crash the boards as hard as I could. I wanted to start the break for our team of that."
