#6 Terps Rout UMass Lowell in Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior guard Brene Moseley notched her first career double-double as the No. 6 Maryland women’s basketball team cruised in a 102-53 win over UMass Lowell Saturday.

Moseley posted 24 points and 10 assists against the River Hawks. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 22 points, including 20 before halftime for the Terrapins, who are coming off the school's first back-to-back appearances in the Final Four.

Freshman Kiah Gillespie scored 15 points as Maryland surpassed 100-point mark for a second consecutive season opener.

Nicole Hayner had 14 points to lead Lowell. Kayla Gibbs scored 12 points and Lindsey Doucette added 10.

Maryland returns three starters from the team that won the Big Ten regular season and tournament titles.

The Terrapins are ranked No. 6 in the USA Today Division I Top 25 Coaches Preseason poll and No. 9 in the Associated Press preseason poll.

Next, Maryland will host High Point (1-0) at XFINITY Center Wednesday at 7 p.m. Former Terrapin and 2006 NCAA Champion Laura Harper is in her second season as an assistant for the Panthers.

The Terps will host a Teddy Bear Toss at halftime of Wednesday night's game. Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals to toss onto the court for the chance to win prizes. All donations will benefit College Park Youth & Family Services supporting local families in need.

Fans are invited to participate in a pre-game painting event with The Painted Palette in Heritage Hall. For $25, fans will receive a general admission game ticket and have the opportunity to create their own Maryland Basketball-themed masterpiece.
