#5 Terps Takedown Blue Devils, 86-43

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 18 points and the No. 5 Maryland Terrapins never trailed in an 86-43 blowout of Central Connecticut State on Saturday.

Junior Brionna Jones added 14 points for the Terrapins (8-0), who defeated No. 20 Syracuse on Wednesday and have three more games remaining against unranked opponents before facing No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 28.

Five players scored in double figures for Maryland, which won its fifth game of the season by 40 or more points.

The Terps finished the first quarter with a 22-2 lead, holding the Blue Devils to just 8.3 percent shooting from the field. Walker-Kimbrough notched 10 of her points in the first period. The Terrapins shot 56.3 percent in the first half as they increased their lead to 41-14 at halftime.

The Blue Devils tied Maryland for scoring, 22-22, in the third quarter but a buzzer-beating jumper from senior Brene Moseley gave the Terrapins took a 63-36 lead into the fourth quarter. Maryland increased pressure and intensity in the fourth to seal the 86-43 win.

Walker-Kimbrough is among Maryland's most consistent scorers, contributing at least 16 points for a seventh time in eight contests.

Moseley led the game with nine assists while freshman Kiah Gillespie paced the Terrpains with seven rebounds.

Juniors Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Brionna Jones are both closing in on 1,000 career points. Walker-Kimbrough currently has 965 points and Jones has 821. Fifth-year senior Brene Moseley is nearing the 300 career assist mark. She currently has notched 288 career assists.

The Terrapins are back in the AP top five since they ended last season at No. 4. This is the first time in school history both the Maryland men’s and women’s teams are ranked in the top five. The Maryland men are No. 2 this week. Maryland is also the only school in the country with both teams in the AP top 10.

Next, the Terrapins will host Loyola (2-5) Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the XFINITY Center. The Terrapins will be recognizing all police, firefighters and EMTS with free admission for Hometown Heroes Night. Family friends of hometown heroes can purchase discounted tickets.

The Terps will be hosting a Toys for Tots drive beginning at Tuesday’s game and ending at their game Dec. 11 vs. Southern. Fans are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys to donate to help underprivileged youth in the area and help the Terps beat Penn State in a friendly charitable competition.
