#1 Terps Face #5 Florida For First Time Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (6-0) takes on No. 5 Florida (6-2) for the first time in program history Saturday at noon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

  • The Terrapins-Gators game will be streamed through BTN Plus.
  • Live stats will be available, and game updates will be provided on the Maryland women’s lacrosse Twitter feed.

#2500Terps

  • The Terps are attempting to break the attendance record at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex by bringing in 2,500 Terrapin fans for Saturday's game.
  • Fans can post a picture of themselves in Maryland gear to Instagram or Twitter with #2500Terps for a chance to win free tickets to Saturday's contest vs. Florida.
  • Every 100th fan who enters the Complex will receive a free T-shirt.
  • Saturday is also U.S. Lacrosse Day, and everyone with a valid U.S. Lacrosse membership card will receive free entry.

  • The Terps are averaging 13.83 goals per game while limiting opponents to 6.33 goals per game. Maryland has allowed more than 10 goals only once this season (11 vs. North Carolina).
  • Junior Taylor Cummings leads the Terrapins with 21 goals, nine assists, 30 points, 34 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers, and is tied with Casey Pepperman for the lead in ground balls (10).
  • Graduate goalkeeper Alex Fitzpatrick has started all six games and holds a 6.13 goals-against average and .540 save percentage.
  • The Terps are on a 16-game win streak - the longest currently in Division I - and have not lost since April 5, 2014.

  • Florida is 6-2 on the season, and in their last outing on Tuesday, the Gators fell, 13-12, in overtime to Syracuse.
  • Senior Shannon Gilroy, a 2014 First Team All-American, leads the Gators with 28 goals, 38 points and 22 draw controls. Goalkeeper Mary-Sean Wilcox has started all eight contests and holds an 8.96 goals-against average and .429 save percentage. She leads the team in ground balls (15).
  • Florida is led by Amanda O'Leary, who served as an assistant coach at Maryland from 1992-93. She has been with the Gators since their inaugural season in 2010, and has led them to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

  • Freshman Megan Whittle and junior Taylor Cummings each recorded six points as the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team routed Towson, 17-2, Wednesday evening. RECAP | STATS
  • Whittle scored a career-high six goals while Cummings recorded two goals and four assists.
  • The Terps held the Tigers to just two goals, which both came in the first half. Maryland committed only four turnovers, and Alex Fitzpatrick made 10 saves in goal.

  • Junior midfielder Taylor Cummings was selected as the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
  • In two wins last week, Cummings scored 10 goals and recorded 16 draw controls and four caused turnovers.
  • Cummings was also named ILWomen.com’s National Player of the Week for her performances last week.

  • Junior midfielder Taylor Cummings, the reigning Tewaaraton winner, has made her presense known across the field as she leads the Terps in every major stat category.
  • Cummings currently leads Maryland in goals (21), assists, (9), points (30), shots (35), draw controls (34) and caused turnovers (10). She is tied with Casey Pepperman for the team lead in ground balls (10).
  • The Ellicott City, Md., native ranks first in the conference with 1.67 caused turnovers/game, and is first in the Big Ten and eighth nationally in draw controls/game (5.67). She is second in the Big Ten and 12th nationally in goals/game (3.50), and first in the conference and ninth nationally in points/game (5.00).

newcomers make immediate impact

  • Freshmen Megan Whittle and Taylor Hensh and senior transfer Alex Fitzpatrick have made immediate contributions to the top-ranked Terps.
  • Whittle has scored 18 goals in six games, good for second on the team. She tallied hat tricks against North Carolina, Hofstra and UMBC, and scored a whopping six goals against Towson. Whittle came to Maryland as the top-ranked player in the class of 2015.
  • Hensh has seen time in all six games as a reserve attacker, and broke out with a hat trick against Lehigh. She also scored two goals against Towson.
  • Fitzpatrick, a three-year starter at Lehigh, has started all six games for the Terps. She currently holds a 6.13 goals-against average and .540 save percentage.

  • The Terps are among the nation’s best at controlling draws. The team tops the Big Ten and rank 24th nationally with 14.00 draw controls per game.
  • Junior Taylor Cummings leads the conference and is eighth in the nation with 5.68 draw controls per game.
  • Maryland recorded a season-high 18 draw controls against North Carolina.

five terrapins named to tewaaraton watch list

  • Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Kelly McPartland and Alice Mercer were named to the 2015 Tewaaraton Watch List in February.
  • The five Terps were the most players from any program named to the 50-player watch list.
  • All five players were named Inside Lacrosse preseason All-Americans.
  • Cummings is the reigning Tewaaraton Award winner, while Douty was a finalist last season.
