WASHINGTON – Freshman attacker Megan Whittle has been added to the 2015 Tewaaraton Watch List, as announced by the Tewaaraton Foundation Thursday.
Whittle immediately entered No. 1 Maryland’s starting lineup and has helped the Terps start the season with an 8-0 record. She is second on the team with 25 goals. Whittle came to Maryland as the top-ranked freshman in her class by Inside Lacrosse, and she is the only freshman on the 53-person list.
Whittle joins defending Tewaaraton winner Taylor Cummings, Megan Douty, Brooke Griffin, Kelly McPartland and Alice Mercer on the watch list. The Terrapins now have six players on the watch list, the most of any team.
The second round of additions will take place on April 9, and the field will be narrowed to 25 nominees on April 23. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 7 and invited to the ceremony. The Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 2015, at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
