COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's basketball team celebrated its historic first year in the Big Ten and its second straight Final Four trip Wednesday night with its annual banquet at The Marriott Inn & Conference Center on campus.
Members of the team, staff, families, fans and the Terps' top supporters all celebrated the season in which the Terrapins went 34-3, earned a perfect 18-0 record in the Big Ten and advanced to their second straight NCAA Final Four.
Redshirt senior Laurin Mincy was honored with the Impact Award after five of the most successful seasons in Maryland history. Mincy helped the Terrapins to three conference titles and two Final Fours. Throughout the year, she showed leadership, served as a voice for the team, while leading the team in scoring at 13.5 points per game and in three-point shooting percentage. She played in 143 career games, more than every Terrapin in history, except Marissa Coleman, who played in 144.
Sophomore Lexie Brown was awarded the Playmaker Award. She helped lead the Big Ten’s top offense that averaged 78.6 points per game and led the team in assists with 163 and steals with 80, while averaging 13.3 points per game.
Sophomore Shatori Walker-Kimbrough earned the Enforcer Award as a high energy player that shot 51.3 percent from the field for 13.3 points per game with 5.3 rebounds and 55 steals on the year.
Sophomore Brionna Jones was awarded the Sharp Shooter and Rebounder Awards. She led the team with 8.9 rebounds per game and shot 60.1 percent from the field (184-306) on the year to average 12.4 points per game.
Junior Malina Howard received the Terp Award, an honor given to the student-athlete who embodies the Terrapins' core values consistently, and fully. The core values include passion, discipline, academic commitment, honesty, respect, gratitude, commitment to the community and loyalty to each other. Howard was also honored for winning the Elite 89 Award at the Final Four last week.
Redshirt junior Brene Moseley was awarded the Perseverance and Courage Award for her dedication to Maryland her growth on and off the court throughout the year.
Freshmen Kiara Leslie and Kristen Confroy were awarded with the Rookie Impact Awards for their contributions in their first season. They each saw time in at least 36 games, giving the Terrapins huge contributions off the bench in their special season.
Redshirt freshman A’Lexus Harrison earned the Charger Award for her the constant energy that she provided for the team this year on the court, as well as for sacrificing her body and taking charges in games and practices.
Freshman Aja Ellison was honored with the Iron Woman Award for her dedication and work ethic in the performance center and her improvement and focus on the floor. Ellison showed perseverance in returning after a foot injury sidelined her in her senior season in high school.
Chloe Pavlech, Tierney Pfirman, Howard, Jones and Confroy were also recognized for their outstanding academic acheivements.
Managers Sydney Durrah and Joe Glowacki earned the Dedication and Service Awards for their commitment and service to the program and their willingness to help in whatever way necessary. Sean Ehlbeck also earned a Dedication and Service Award for serving first as a practice player, then as a staff member, as well as his tremendous growth.
