#1 Terps Take Down Michigan on Senior Day

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Ten different Terrapins scored as the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (16-0, 4-0 B1G) defeated Michigan (5-10, 0-4), 14-9, Saturday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

"It was a good day for the Terps," said head coach Cathy Reese. "We had a lot of really good energy out here. It was really fun for us to celebrate our awesome senior class. We had beautiful weather, a great crowd - just a lot of really great energy surrounding our program today."

Megan Whittle recorded her ninth hat trick of the season while Brooke Griffin and Zoe Stukenberg each added two goals. Mattie Meredith, Taylor Salandra, Kristen Lamon, Erin Collins, Taylor Cummings, Lindsay Biondi and Bairre Reilly each scored once.

The Terps started the game with a quick lead as Cummings scored at 29:10. Griffin, Salandra and Collins each added goals in the next five minutes as Maryland went up, 4-0. The Wolverines scored twice in less than a minute to cut the lead in half before Meredith tallied a goal at 17:40.

After another Michigan goal, the Terrapins went on another 4-0 run as Lamon, Stukenberg, Griffin and Whittle each scored. Whittle scored two more goals in the last 16 seconds of the half as the Terps took an 11-4 lead into halftime.

Michigan came out more aggressively in the second half, but Biondi and Stukenberg were able to increase the Terrapins’ lead to 13-4. The Wolverines scored once more before Reilly recorded a goal at 5:43. Michigan scored four goals in the last four minutes of the game, but the Terps took the 14-9 win.

Maryland held a 34-26 advantage in shots and a 16-14 advantage in ground balls. The Terps also took an 18-7 advantage in draw controls.

Seniors Nicole Aust, Shanna Brady, Megan Douty, Kelly McPartland, Casey Pepperman, Meredith, Salandra, Lamon, Collins, Griffin and Fitzpatrick were honored prior to the game.

The Terps close the regular season next Thursday against No. 12 Penn State. Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
