Postgame Quotes

#5/6 Maryland 146, Bluefield State 17

Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement…
“I thought tonight was a good tune up for us. We have so many new players between our freshmen and Ieshia Small. We played with a lot of enthusiasm and played really hard. A lot of great things and we got rid of those jitters. A thing we need to improve on is our free throw shooting. That’s an area for us where we know we can improve easily.”

On the play of freshman Blair Watson

“I was really excited to watch Blair play. She played free and let the game come to her. I thought she gave a phenomenal effort on both ends of the floor. Her defensive rebounding led to her offense. Shooting a three for her is like shooting a lay up and I thought she really let the game come to her.”

Senior Guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough

On her growth over the course of her career…
“Just being able to lead on and off the floor and to stay confident and to give our other players confidence. I’m really excited because we’ve been working hard and continue to let the game come to us similarly to how Blair played today. We were almost following her lead today. We’re really excited.”

Freshman Guard Destiny Slocum

On the trip to Italy and how it helped the team develop…
“I think it was critical for us because having seven new people is tough and coming in as a freshman is tough. The growth here is amazing and the players here are amazing so coming into that, Italy really gave us a chance to bond and come together and mesh and have that chemistry. I think that’s why we’re rolling so well with practice and everything.”

Freshman Guard Blair Watson

On getting back on the floor tonight after sitting out the Italy trip…
“I just wanted to show that I’m back and I want to be part of this team and that I belong. I just want to rep Maryland the best way I can.”
