Cummings Earns B1G, National Weekly Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After leading the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team to two dominant wins last week, senior midfielder Taylor Cummings earned several weekly honors for her performances.

Cummings was named Big Ten Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday, the first time a player has earned both honors in the same week. She also was named the Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week and Inside Lacrosse/StringKing Co-Player of the Week.

In the Terps’ 17-4 win over Northwestern to open Big Ten play, Cummings scored a game-high five goals while adding six ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers. In Maryland’s 17-9 win over Cornell, the Ellicott City, Md., native posted three goals, three assists, three ground balls, nine draw controls and three caused turnovers. Cummings committed just one turnover last week.

Cummings leads the Terps with 39 points, 31 ground balls, 57 draw controls and 29 caused turnovers. She is second on the team in goals (29) and assists (10).

This is Cummings’ seventh Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors and the fourth time she’s been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Cummings earns Maryland’s second IL/StringKing honor of the season after junior attacker Caroline Wannen earned the honor on March 22. This is the Terps’ first Epoch/LM Player of the Week this season.

The Terps return to action Wednesday against Johns Hopkins (8-5). Opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
