Top-Seeded Terps Ready for Big Ten Tourney

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team (17-0) travels to Evanston, Ill., for the Big Ten Tournament this weekend. The top-seeded Terps will face either No. 4-seed Rutgers in the semifinals Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Six terps unanimously named all-big ten

terps claim big ten regular season title

  • Maryland fought back in a tough battle with Penn State to claim the Big Ten regular season title last week with a 10-9 win.
  • The Terps finished the regular season with a 17-0 record, the second straight year Maryland has posted an unblemished regular season. Maryland has gone undefeated in the regular season eight previous times and advanced to the national championship game in each year.
  • The Terps claimed the regular season title for their second straight season in the Big Ten.

Steele named b1g freshman of the week

  • After helping the Terps to a 10-9 win over Penn State last week, Caroline Steele was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday.
  • Steele scored a first-half hat trick on three shots against the Nittany Lions.

Scouting the rutgers scarlet knights

  • The Scarlet Knights (5-11, 2-3) are on a two-game win streak, having upset Ohio State and beating Michigan.
  • Midfielder Kristina Dunphey and defender Amanda Caster were named to the All-Big Ten team.
  • Dunphey leads Rutgers with 41 goals and 50 points while Amanda Turturro has the team lead with 16 assists. Bianca Dente has started 10 games in goal and holds a 12.98 goals-against average and a .408 save percentage.

  • The Terps are 16-0 all-time vs. Rutgers.
  • Led by four goals from Megan Whittle, Maryland defeated the Scarlet Knights 18-3 on April 10. Cummings scored her 200th goal in the game while goalie Megan Taylor made six saves.

FIVE terps named tewaaraton nominees

  • An NCAA-best five members of Maryland were named to the 25-player Tewaaraton Award nominee list last week.
  • Taylor Cummings, Alice Mercer, Zoe Stukenberg, Nadine Hadnagy and Megan Whittle were all named Tewaaraton nominees. The five Terps were instrumental in helping the Terps to a 17-0 record in the regular season and the Big Ten regular season title.
  • Maryland has won five of the last six Tewaaraton Awards and six in the award's history.

  • The Terps finished the regular season home schedule at 9-0 for 2016. The senior class moved to 42-0 in their careers in College Park.
  • Maryland is 103-2 in College Park under head coach Cathy Reese. The Terps have won all seven games in which they have played an opponent ranked No. 1 or 2 at home in the past seven seasons.
  • Maryland is currently on a 50-game win streak at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex and hasn’t lost in College Park since March 10, 2012.
