Colson Earns Third Big Ten Weekly Honor

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore defender Lizzie Colson has been named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. Colson filled up the stat sheet in this past Saturday's win at RV/#24 Johns Hopkins, leading the team and setting career-highs in draw controls (five), groundballs (four) and caused turnovers (three).

The Manchester, Md. native was vital on a Maryland defense that only allowed five goals, the program's lowest total since last season’s regular season 17-4 win over Johns Hopkins.

On the season, Colson leads Maryland in groundballs (16), caused turnovers (nine) and stands third with 22 draw controls.

This week's award marks the third time this season the sophomore has won the Defensive Player of the Week honors. Colson received recognition two weeks ago following a pair of wins over UMBC and Hofstra, when she recorded four groundballs in the two wins, while also notching seven draw controls and one caused turnover. The first honor of the season came after Colson tied for the team lead in both caused turnovers (two) and groundballs (two) and ranked second on the team with three draw control wins in the season opening victory over William & Mary.

Colson and the Terps will face two top-ten opponents this week, taking on #7/8 Penn in Philadelphia on Thursday before returning home against #3/4 James Madison on Saturday at noon.
