Mentorship & Service

House of Ruth-Baltimore
Each fall, Maryland and Penn State student-athletes collaborate on a community outreach initiative at the House of Ruth in Baltimore, a domestic abuse shelter for women and children.  Penn State raised money to donate needed supplies to the shelter, while Maryland student-athletes volunteered their time to assist in organization efforts at the shelter.

PG County Reading Program

Maryland student-athletes partner with local elementary schools to create monthly reading days. At the end of each month student-athletes visit several local elementary schools to read and spend time with students.

TerpsGiving
Maryland student-athletes partner with Shop Rite to provide over 200 Thanksgiving meals to families in need in the Baltimore area. The Amazing Grace Church in Baltimore was the beneficiary of this year’s Thanksgiving meals donation.

Terps Got Talent
In conjunction with TERP Thon, the annual student-athlete talent show raises funds for Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Student-athletes have an opportunity to showcase their diverse talents on stage, not just on the field, all while raising money for pediatric cancer research.

 “Adopt a Family”
Each Maryland Athletics Program is paired with a family in the surrounding area to provide holiday gifts for families in need.

Fan Fest
Student-athletes host a carnival at the spring football game to raise awareness and funds for organizations they support and partner with throughout the year.

Kick Ball Tournament
Student-athletes, athletic department staff, and a community partner join faces to compete on the kickball field while raising money for Kids vs. Cancer.
