Louis Swaba was promoted to Running Backs Coach in February of 2025. Serving as a Quality Control Specialist and Senior Quality Control Specialist at Maryland previously, Swaba has been with the Terrapins for all but one season since June of 2019.

As part of the Terrapins’ offensive staff for four of the past five seasons, Swaba has helped Maryland cement itself as one of the top offenses in the country. In 2023, Maryland ranked top-five in the Big Ten in seven major statistical categories: points per game (29.7), touchdowns (49), passing yards (3,626), completions (307), total yards (5,035), yards per game (387.3) and yards per play (5.9). 

Swaba spent the 2021 season as a Quality Control Coach working with the offense at his alma mater, Appalachian State. 

Prior to Maryland, Swaba spent two seasons at East Carolina University from 2017 to 2019, first as a Quality Control Coordinator and then as an Offensive Analyst. In 2019, East Carolina eclipsed the 400-yard mark offensively on six occasions with a balanced unit that stood 22nd nationally in passing yards per game (288.8 ypg) and turned in its highest ground total (1,696 yards) since 2014. 

In 2016, Swaba served as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Wingate where he worked with the Bulldogs' multiple personnel spread offense. 

Prior to his one-year stint at Wingate, he was a graduate assistant coach for the offensive line at Charlotte and handled video analysis, scouting reports and drill supervision for the 49ers.

Swaba also had a two-year stay at Limestone (S.C.) College in 2013 and 2014, initially joining the Saints' staff as the first-ever defensive line coach in school history as the program was launched to compete at the NCAA Division II level. 

Swaba began his coaching career in 2011 as a defensive assistant coach at Porter Ridge (N.C.) High School before moving on to a graduate assistant's role at Wingate - the first of two tenures he had with the Bulldogs.

He was a three-year letterman at Appalachian State from 2008 until 2010, primarily playing the guard and tackle position on the Mountaineers' offensive line. Swaba earned a bachelor's degree in history from ASU in 2011.

Swaba’s wife, Abir, is Maryland’s former Director of Football Operations and she currently is the Director of Team Logistics and Operations for the Cleveland Browns. They have a newborn baby boy, Kawika.
