Daniel Black is in his first year as Coordinator of Sports Science with Maryland Basketball. In that role, he is responsible for all data collection, analytics, and visualization for both teams in order to enhance athlete readiness, performance, and recovery throughout the season. He also assists the Director of Basketball Performance with the daily training sessions for Men’s and Women’s Basketball.

Before arriving in College Park, Black has worked in sports performance at the University of Texas, Georgetown University and The George Washington University. Prior to that he served as a strength and conditioning coach here at the University of Maryland.  Black received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland and is currently completing his Master’s Thesis in Performance Analytics and Data Science from The George Washington University. 

Black is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He is also a certified Level-1 Nutrition Coach from Precision Nutrition, a certified Functional Movement Screen Specialist, and holds a Certificate in Applied Functional Science from the Gray Institute.  He also completes coursework in Data Science and Analytics.
