  • Led team averaging 16.5 point per game, while shooting 52.6% from the field and 76.6% from the free-throw line.
  • Scored in double figures in 30 games, scoring 20 or more points in 12 games.
  • Tied for third in the Big Ten with 9.0 rebounds per game.
  • Finished with 10 more more rebounds in 17 games and had 15 double-doubles on the season, tied for the 14th-most in the country.
  • Ninth in the Big Ten with 39 blocks, adding 67 assists and 39 steals.

  • Racked up 10 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in a win over Northwestern, marking his 15th game rebounding in the double digits (3/8).
  • Put up a double double against #17 Michigan, with 17 points, and 12 rebounds. He also added two steals, one block, and one assist (3/5).
  • Marked his tenth game scoring 20+ in a game against Penn State, in which he dropped 23 points, six rebounds, four steals, two blocks, and one assist (3/1).
  • Recorded his fifth double double in a row, posting 10 points, 10 rebounds, one block, and one assist in a game against #8 Michigan St. (2/26).

  • Scored three points in addition to grabbing seven rebounds in a win at home over Nebraska (1/19).
  • Grabbed 14 rebounds marking his sixth game rebounding in the double digits. Also added nine points, one assist, and one block in an away game against Northwestern (1/16).
  • Contributed 27 points marking a new season high, along with seven rebounds, a pair of assists, one steal, and one block against Minnesota (1/13).
  • Dropped eight points in a win over #22 UCLA along with five rebounds and one assist (1/10).
  • Played a productive game against #9 Oregon racking up 17 points, five rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and two assists (1/5).

  • Put up 15 points, eight rebounds, and two assists along a season high in steals with three against Bucknell (11/27).

  • Finished with a double-double scoring 22 points along with 11 rebounds. Set his season-high in assists with five in a win over Villanova (11/24).
  • Added 10 points and six rebounds in a game against Canisius (11/19).
  • Tied for the team lead with 24 points while pulling down seven boards, adding three assists, and two blocks against #15 Marquette (11/15).
  • Contributed 11 points, three assists, two blocks, and two steals against Florida A&M (11/11).
  • Posted eight points, three assists, and two steals against Mount St. Mary’s (11/8).
  • Led the game in points and rebounds with 22 and 20, while also contributing two blocks and one steal in Maryland debut against Manhattan (11/4).
  • Posted the first 20-point, 20-rebound game by a Maryland player since Joe Smith had 31 points and 21 rebounds against Texas in the NCAA Tournament in 1995.
  • The second player in college basketball since 1996–97 to post a 20-20 game in his freshman debut.

Before College:
  • Was a McDonald's All-American and consensus five-star recruit
  • Named Co-MVP of the McDonald's All-America Game earlier this month after scoring 23 points while adding eight rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks
  • Was the first Terp since Adrian Branch to earn MVP honors
  • The second-highest rated recruit (No. 12 nationally) to sign with the Terps between five-stars Diamond Stone (No. 8, 2015) and Jalen Smith (No. 15, 2018)
  • Played three seasons at Montverde Academy in Florida after spending his freshman year at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore
  • Nationally, he ranked No. 10 overall by ESPN, No. 12 by 247Sports, and No. 15 by Rivals
  • Led Montverde to a 33-0 record in 2023-24 where he led the Eagles with 16.4 points per game and 7.5 rebounds
  • Named a MaxPreps Second Team All-American after leading Montverde to the Chipotle National Championship and earned All-Tournament honors
  • As a freshman at St. Frances, was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year, while as a junior in 2023 was selected to the MaxPreps Junior All-American Honorable Mention Team
  • In addition to playing at Montverde, also played AAU basketball for Team Thrill which he led to the Under Armour Association U-17 spring championship in 2023

Question: What made you start playing basketball? Who influenced you to start playing? 
Derik Queen: I started playing basketball at the age of 5 or 6 years old. I was walking around with my grandma and this basketball coach came up to us and asked how old and tall I was before telling me I should come play with him and ever since I've been playing 

Q: What has been the most memorable experience of your career coming from high school? 
DQ: Winning a championship with my brothers. 

Q: What is your intended major and dream job? 

DQ: My intended major is business or communications and I would love to have a job that makes seven figures!


Q: What do you have to do before a game to get ready?
DQ: I have to eat and listen to music. 

Q: What do you have to eat before a game?
DQ: Probably Chick-Fil-A, I love it. One of my favorite meals is Chick-Fil-A. I always order a number one, no pickle, large fries with Polynesian sauce and a Sundry or water for the drink. 


Q: What song do you have to listen to?
DQ: From Now On by Lil Baby and Future
 

Q: What's the best piece of advice you have ever received? 
DQ: "Keep the main thing, the main thing"


Q: If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would they be?
DQ: Lebron James, Denzel Washington, Nicki Minaj 

Q: What is your favorite song by Nicki Minaj?
DQ: Anaconda was one of my favorites back in the day. I was a big Nicki Minaj fan and I used to have a big crush on her. 

Q: What sport would you play if you didn't play basketball? 
DQ: I would play baseball. My position would probably be pitcher or shortstop. Actually I would play anywhere on the field but catcher. My knees couldn't handle that as a tall guy.


Q: If you brought a friend to Maryland, where would you bring them to eat?
DQ: Hip Hop, they have got everything. They have good seafood, chicken and so much more. There are a couple of them in Baltimore.


Q: If you had to explain Old Bay seasoning to someone what would you say? 
DQ: Old Bay is the best thing, you can put it on every single thing, literally everything. It tastes like perfection.
