The University of Maryland swimming and diving program has tabbed Meredith Eyler as its new assistant coach, as announced by head coach Sean Schimmel on Friday.
"I am excited about what Meredith is going to add to our team," Schimmel said. "Meredith has experience with coaching and recruiting at the Division I level and those are key components to helping our program move forward. Almost more importantly, I wanted Meredith to coach with us because of her willingness to want to be a part of building something great which is what we are doing here at Maryland."
Eyler comes to the Terps after serving as assistant coach at the University of North Carolina - Wilmington since August, 2006. In addition to her coaching duties with the Seahawks, Eyler was also the swim lessons supervisor and a part-time faculty member. As an assistant coach, Eyler specialized in distance and I.M. progression while implementing various dry land workouts and working with UNCW strength coaches in coordinating appropriate workouts for specific groups. Eyler also assisted long-time head coach Dave Allen in recruitment, fundraising, budget management, community service and compliance.
Prior to her stint at UNCW, Eyler was the head swim coach and assistant manager at Wedgewood Swim Club in West Chester, Pa. At Wedgewood, she coached over 250 swimmers from the ages of 4-18.
Eyler began her collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., and brings a total of 13 years of coaching experience, including five in the collegiate ranks, to the Terrapin staff.
As a student-athlete, Eyler was a four-year member of the swim team at West Chester University, where she captained the squad during her senior campaign. She captured a conference title in the 1650 free in 2001 and was named an NCAA Division II All-American her final three seasons at West Chester while the squad finished third in the nation in 2002.

I believe the swimming and diving program is committed to taking the next step in becoming a top team in the ACC and on the national level and I am looking forward to the experience."
Eyler earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from West Chester in 2002 and completed her Master of Education degree from Springfield College in 2006.
