UMTerps.com sat down witH Rodney Rice to get to know him on and off the court

Question: Why did you choose Maryland as you were going through the transfer process?

Rodney Rice: I really just wanted to come home. The new people, the new environment, and a different energy around the program made me want to come here.

Q: How do you think your new teammates and your new coaches have impacted you so far?

RR: Everyone has been really welcoming and I like the energy in the gym, when we work out, and in the locker room. Things like that are always a good thing that you want in your program.

Q: Who has had the most influence on your basketball career and what did that look like?

RR: My dad - there have been good days and there have been bad days, but he has always been there to give advice and make me better. Whether it was to do better or things I can improve on, he was always there for me. He played at Boston College and later transferred to Richmond so he truly understands the process and the path I've been on.

Q: What do you have to do before a game?

RR: I have to stretch, take an hour nap and listen to music. I typically listen to YoungBoy before a game.

Q: What do you have to eat before the game?

RR: Pasta, it could be pesto, mac and cheese or anything really. Around here I like to get some pasta from Noodles and Company.

Q: If your sport had a mascot based on you, what would it be?

RR: Probably a Lion because they're fearless.

Q: If you didn't play basketball, what sport would you play?

RR: Football, I would play receiver.

Q: What's your guilty pleasure food that you avoid during season?

RR: I'll probably avoid those tacos from the truck by the gas station down the street.

Q: If you were taking a friend to Maryland, where would you take them to eat?

RR: The new hot dog place is near the Smoothie King, Dog Haus Biergarten.

Q: Coming home and playing near the high school you attend, DeMatha, what would you say was your favorite highlight playing there?

RR: We attended this tournament near Hagerstown, Maryland and won the whole thing. It was a very prestigious tournament back in the day. DeMatha's atmosphere at the games were good too. I went to the Illinois game here and saw the good atmosphere, I'm excited for that.
