Mike Martinez was hired by the University of Maryland as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in July 2010 from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Mike oversees the daily operations of the Varsity Team House Sports Medicine Facility, where he is the Athletic Trainer for Men's & Women's Soccer (spring) and Men's & Women's Golf and supervises the interns with Men's and Women's Track and Field and Baseball. Prior to coming to the University of Maryland, Mike served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was the Director of the Sports Medicine Internship Program and was responsible for the health care of Men's Soccer, Track & Field, and Baseball. As a graduate assistant at California State University, Fullerton, Mike was a Clinical Instructor for a reputable Athletic Training Program from 2007-2009 and was Head Athletic Trainer for both Men's Basketball and Baseball. Mike spent nine (9) years working in an out-patient physical therapy clinic in Southern California as a Certified Athletic Trainer, and Director and Founder of the Train2Shape Wellness Program.

Mike currently works with the United States Soccer Federation where he continues to travel internationally and domestically with our countries men's and women's youth national teams and men's full national team.

In 2009, Mike completed his Masters of Science at Cal State Fullerton receiving his degree in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training. During that time, Mike began his research in the use of caffeine as an ergogenic aid during resistance training and changes in mood. Mike also received his Cum Laude Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2002 from Cal State Fullerton.

Mike is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (since 2002), and the Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association and is a former committee member of the Public Relations Committee in the Far West Athletic Trainers' Association.
