Gabe Carter was promoted to Director of Compliance in January 2021. He was hired in 2018 and previously served as the Assistant Director of Compliance. Carter enters his seventh school year at Maryland in 2024-25.
In his role, Carter establishes compliance procedures and develops organizational strategies to ensure the company complies with all federal, state, and local regulations. He works with the men's basketball, softball and baseball teams.
Prior to his position at Maryland, Carter was the Assistant Director of Compliance at Georgia Southern University from January 2016 - October 2018. His primary responsibilities to assist in providing a comprehensive rules education program for our student-athletes, coaches, fans, community members, and all other athletics department personnel. He oversaw bylaw 11, 12, 13, 16, and 17 monitoring procedures while assisting with interpretations of NCAA and Sun Belt Conference rules and regulations, violation investigations, and waivers.
Carter is a graduate of Central Michigan University, where he earned his Bachelor's in Sport Studies, and University of Michigan, where he earned his Master's in Sport management. While in school, Carter worked as a Compliance Assistant at Michigan and a Football Operations Intern at Central Michigan.
