As the Coordinator of Program and Curriculum Design, Sophia is responsible for the development of curriculum, content, and processes that meet the learning needs of the student-athletes in the areas of career readiness, identity development and leadership education. Sophia manages the Kubasik First Impact Program, a specialized program for second-year student-athletes to assist with major selection, career exploration and identity development. She also advises Pre-Health Terps, a student leadership group for student-athletes interested in a career in healthcare.

Before coming to Maryland, Sophia was the Student-Athlete Enhancement Assistant at the University of South Florida (USF) where she served as the teaching assistant for USF’s student-athlete leadership academy and career development courses, implemented NIL education, and facilitated life skills programs. 

Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Sophia attended the University of Michigan where she earned a bachelor of science in the School of Kinesiology. Upon graduation, she served as a Senior Leadership Consultant for Alpha Gamma Delta International Headquarters where she traveled to over 50 different college campuses across the United States and Canada providing leadership education and training to young college women. Sophia also earned an Ed.M in higher education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

Sophia is the proud daughter of Cynthia Baur and Silvio Waisbord. She enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, riding her Peloton and listening to Justin Bieber.
