TAMPA, Fla. - Maryland (2-2) split a pair of games for the second consecutive day in the Louisville Slugger Invitational here Saturday, bouncing back from a 6-2 loss to Northwestern to shut out Nicholls State 9-0.
Freshman pitcher Amanda Bettker tossed her second shutout in as many collegiate starts, allowing just two hits in the Terps' victory. Senior Kelly Shipman took the loss vs. Northwestern, as her season record dropped to 0-2.
Jennifer Potzman led a 10-hit Maryland attack vs. Nicholls State, going 2 for 4 at the plate and driving in a team-high three runs. Other Terps with multiple hits included Shipman (2 for 5), Michelle Burrell (2 for 4) and Beth Radford (2 for 3). Maryland broke open a 1-0 game in the sixth inning by scoring six times. The Terps added two runs in the seventh.
Against Northwestern, Maryland was limited to just three hits -- two from DH Cortney Madea -- in a 6-2 loss. The Terps committed three errors in the game which led the three unearned runs.
