KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Laurel native Gary Mankulish is positioned to challenge for medalist honors at
the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Classic college men's golf tournament, conducted at Osprey Point Golf Course. After two rounds and 36 holes,
Mankulish is tied for third place, four shots under par and four strokes behind tourney leader Jamie Elson of
Augusta State.
Mankulish (69-71-140), though, is the only Terrapin to be found among the top 40, out of 90 competitors.
Senior teammate Keith Unikel, an All-ACC selection last season and second place finisher in the same
tournament a year ago, is in 45th, 6-over par. Maryland (598, +, the defending champion, is 15th out of 17
teams entering Tuesday's final round.
Mankulish fired a 69 in his first round on Monday, and followed with a 71 to match four other golfers at
140. Jedd McLuen of host College of Charleston is in second, just one stroke ahead.
North Florida, meanwhile, appears well on its way to running away with the team championship. UNF is
14-under after two rounds with four golfers all in the top 10 individuals.
