COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Senior outside hitter Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.) smashed a career-high 27 kills, leading Maryland (7-7, 1-0 ACC) to a 7-15, 15-4, 15-2, 11-15, 15-11 win over NC State (9-8, 0-1 ACC) in volleyball action Friday night at Ritchie Coliseum.
Murphy's 27 kills eclipsed her previous career-high of 26, which she posted against James Madison on Sept. 7. She posted 19 kills alone in the opening two games against the Wolfpack and had three crucial kills in the climactic fifth game.
Senior outside hitter Kate Hannas (Ellicott City, Md.) turned in 14 kills and six block assists, and sophomore setter Libby Alberts (Eden Prairie, Minn.) dished out 44 assists. Freshman outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) led the Terps with 14 digs.
NC State was led by Stephanie Stambaugh and Charece Williams, each of whom had 12 kills. Erin Vesey tallied 48 assists.
The Terps will be back in action against North Carolina Saturday at 5 p.m. at Ritchie Coliseum.
