Volleyball Team Defeated by James Madison

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Despite a career-high 26 kills by senior Beth Murphy (Golden, Colo.), Maryland (2-3) suffered a five-game setback to James Madison (4-0) in volleyball action Tuesday night at Ritchie Coliseum. The Terps took the first two games 15-7 and 15-12 before the visiting Dukes stormed back to win the remaining three games 15-12, 15-13 and 15-11.

The turning point of the match came in the third game with the Terps up 7-2. Following a James Madison timeout, the Dukes went on a 13-5 run to extend the match. Lindsay Collingwood nailed 20 kills and Christina Gianino tallied 48 assists in the winning effort.

For Maryland, Murphy also turned in 17 digs. In addition, sophomore Libby Alberts (Eden Prairie, Minn.) posted 58 assists, junior Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) had 12 kills and senior Kate Hannas (Ellicott City, Md.) nailed 10 kills.

Maryland hosts the Maryland Invitational Friday and Saturday at Ritchie Coliseum. The Terps' first match is against Colorado State(4-0) Friday at noon.
