Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithburg, Md.) pounded a team-high 23 kills and led the Terps with 19 digs as Maryland defeated Virginia (3-1), 15-3, 17-15, 14-16, 15-12, Friday evening in ACC volleyball action at Ritchie Coliseum.

"I am really pleased with the heart we showed out there tonight," said Terrapin coach Janice Kruger. "We did a nice job of carrying out the game plan and executing it well. We showed some maturity tonight," commented Kruger. With the win, Kruger now has 244 victories at Maryland, just six shy of the 250-mark.

Sophomore setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) led the Terrapin attack with 48 assists, 16 digs and seven kills for the winners. Senior Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) also was in double-digit kills with 11 and had four service aces including the match-winning ace for the Terps. Freshman Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) came up big in the deciding game with two critical kills for Maryland down the stretch.

With the victory, Maryland wins their second straight in the ACC to improve to 3-5 in the conference and 11-8 overall. Virginia falls to 9-10 on the year and 4-4 in the ACC.

The Terps are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Oct.14, versus BIG EAST conference member Connecticut. The match is a special one for Kruger as former Terp and current Connecticut head coach Kelli Myers returns to College Park. Myers was a two-time All-ACC selection under Kruger in 1988 and 1989. "It is nice to face a former player who is now a great coach," commented Kruger. "It will be interesting to see the ACC go head-to-head with the BIG EAST." The match is set to begin at Ritchie Coliseum at 5:00 p.m.
