Oct. 14, 2000

Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Senior middle hitter Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) posted 15 kills and a match-high seven blocks as Maryland won their third consecutive match by defeating Connecticut (3-2) 12-15, 15-11, 6-15, 15-11, 15-10, Saturday evening at Ritchie Coliseum.

The match was special for both teams as Connecticut head coach and former Terrapin Kelli Myers returned to College Park to face her former coach Janice Kruger. The teacher got the best of the pupil with the Terps pulling off an exciting come from behind victory over the Huskies. "This was a total team effort tonight," said Kruger following the match. "We were mentally and physically challenged after playing a tough match against Virginia last night. We just pulled together and played with everything we had and got the victory."

Sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithburg, Md.) led the Terps with a match-high 21 kills to go along with 11 digs and five blocks. This was the second straight match that Brennan tallied over 20 kills. Sophomore setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) contributed 47 assists and 11 digs for the victors. Freshman Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) had a solid all-around effort with a team and career-high 16 digs along with seven kills and three service aces.

With the win, Maryland improves to 12-8 overall while Connecticut falls to 12-7. The Terps return to action Tuesday, Oct. 17, when Maryland travels to Tobacco Road to face NC State at 7:30 p.m. The Terrapins won versus the Wolfpack just seven days ago (3-2) at Ritchie Coliseum.
