COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The University of Maryland women's volleyball team closed out the 2000 home schedule with a loss to ACC-foe Clemson (1-3) 15-8, 8-15, 6-15, 9-15, Saturday evening at Ritchie Coliseum. The match was the final one at home for Maryland seniors Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) and Maren Stuart (Tampa, Fla.).
The two seniors did their part, as they were two of the four Terrapins on the day to record double-digit kills. Stuart pounded 11 kills to go along with 10 digs and 2 blocks while Amobi smacked 10 kills and registered three blocks. Freshman outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) had her best performance in a Terrapin uniform with career-highs in kills (18) and digs (14). Sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) also recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs for the Terps.
Clemson was led by outside hitter Jodi Steffes. Steffes led the Tigers with a match-high 27 kills along with 16 digs. With the win, Clemson improves to 12-15 overall and 5-8 in the ACC. Maryland falls to 13-13 on the year and 4-10 in the ACC.
The Terrapins close out the regular season on the road next weekend with a pair of matches before the ACC Tournament. Friday, November 10, Maryland travels to Duke to face the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. The following night the Terps wrap-up the season at Wake Forest. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The 2000 ACC Tournament begins Thursday, November 16, on the campus of Wake Forest University.
