RALEIGH, N.C. - The Maryland softball squad (4-3, 0-0 ACC) displayed resilience and determination on the opening day of the Triangle Classic, bouncing back to defeat Boston University, 7-1, after falling to Liberty, 5-0. After a sluggish game one, the Terrapins picked up the intensity, frustrating the Terriers with solid pitching and some big swings at the plate.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Amanda Bettker (St. Petersburg, Fla.) picked up her third victory in as many appearances in Game 2 vs. Boston. The ace of the Terps' pitching staff struck out eight and allowed only one run, her first of the season. Bettker received offensive support from her teammates in the fourth inning, as freshman Stefanie Robinson (Avenel, N.J.) launched a two-run blast over the left field fence, scoring sophomore catcher Beth Radford (Dunkirk, Md.). The four-bagger marked Robinson's first collegiate base hit. The Terps' continued the offensive barrage in the sixth, sending nine batters to the plate. Five Maryland runners scored that inning, highlighted by a Jennifer Potzman (Trexlertown, Pa.) three-run homer to left.

Sophomore left-hander Danielle Carpenter (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) took the loss in game one vs. Liberty, and senior designated player Cortney Madea (Northampton, Pa.) registered the Terps' lone base hit. Sophomore outfielder Holly Baldwin (Olney, Md.) reached base twice and recorded a steal.

The Terrapins head into day two of the Triangle Classic Tournament tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. vs. Campbell University. Play continues when the Terps' take on Kansas at 11:30 a.m., with championship bracket play beginning at 2:00 p.m. and continuing all day Sunday.
