Maryland senior Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.) shot a three-over par 75 in the second round of the Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf championships on Saturday and will enter Sunday's final 18 holes from his three-way tie in 13th place. Unikel (71-75--146, +2), third after 18 holes on Friday, fell seven strokes behind leader Bryce Molder (72-67--139) of Georgia Tech and is one stroke out of the top 10.
Maryland, meanwhile, slipped from a fifth-place tie after 18 holes to its current standing in seventh-place -- just one stroke ahead of Virginia in eighth. The Terps (597, +21) were tied with North Carolina after Friday's round, but shot 302 on Saturday to slip 13 strokes behind the Tar Heels (584, +8) who remain in a fourth-place tie with Wake Forest. Duke (589, +13) is in sixth.
Overall, NC State (574, -2) continues leading the tournament, holding to a narrow one-stroke lead over defending champion and hard-charging Georgia Tech (575, -1). Tech's Molder is five-under after two rounds to lead all individuals. NC State's Carl Pettersson (70-71--141) heads a four-way tie for second place at 3-under.
Trailing Unikel for Maryland, senior teammate Gary Mankulish (Laurel, Md.) improved from a first round 75 to shoot one-over par 73 on Saturday. Freshman John Moheyer (Lima, Ohio), 13th after 18 holes, fell to 29th with a second round 76. Sophomore Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.) shot 78 on Saturday to finish the second round at nine-over par. Freshman Dan MacDonald (Plandome, N.Y.) shot 82 to stand in the 44th position entering Sunday's final round at Old North State Golf Course at Uwharrie Point.
Sunday's third round begins at 8:30 a.m.
