Volleyball Team Wins Fifth Straight

Washington, D.C.- Sophomore Carey Brennan (Smithburg, Md.) pounded a team-high 21 kills as the University of Maryland women's volleyball team defeated area-rival Georgetown University (3-1) 15-10, 2-15, 15-12, 15-12 Tuesday night at Georgetown.

Maryland jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in game one and went on to win the game 15-10. Senior Nnenna Amobi (Silver Spring, Md.) slammed her third kill of the opening stanza to seal the game for the Terps.

The Terps could not keep their momentum from game one as the Hoyas took game two, 15-2.

Maryland battled back from an early 9-3 deficit to win game three, 15-12. With the score tied at nine, Carey Brennan gave the Terps their first lead of the game and Maryland never trailed again. Maryland scored three points down the stretch on blocks to seal the game three victory.

Senior Maren Stuart (Tampa, Fla.) carried the Terps in the fourth game as Maryland clinched the match 15-12. Stuart nailed two straight kills down the stretch and had a service ace on match point to give the Terrapins the win.

With the victory, the Terps improve to 5-3 while Georgetown falls to 4-4. Maryland returns to action Friday, Sept. 15, when the Terps open their 2000 home schedule versus William & Mary in the Maryland Invitational. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept.16, Maryland faces Morgan State at 11:00 a.m. and East Carolina at 5:30 p.m. in the final day of the Maryland Invitational.
