COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The Maryland women's volleyball team extended its season best winning streak to four games as the Terps downed Duke (3-1) 19-30, 30-25, 30-24, 30-27, Friday evening at Ritchie Coliseum. The victory raised the Terps' record to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in the ACC while Duke fell to 11-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
The Blue Devils started the match strong by winning the first game 30-19. Senior outside hitter Ashley Harris paced Duke with five kills in the opening frame.
From that point on, the Terps rolled to their most impressive victory of the season. In game two, senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) led the way with seven kills at an impressive .583 hitting percentage to give Maryland the game, 30-25.
In the third game, junior outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) took the match over, tallying six kills and two blocks to give the Terps a 30-24 game three victory. Brennan was sensational in the third frame, finishing with a .545 hitting percentage.
Brennan and her teammates kept the momentum going in the fourth game with a balanced attack. Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) smacked six kills while Brennan added four to pace Maryland to the 30-27 win.
Brennan finished the match with team-high 16 kills and a match-best 19 digs. The junior from Smithsburg also tied a career-high with five blocks to help lead the Terps to the victory. Brennan also tallied five blocks last season at home vs. Connecticut.
Three other Terrapins joined Brennan in double figure kills. Willette Dority ended the match with 13 kills and a career-high eight blocks. Sophomore right side Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) added 12 kills, three blocks and two aces and Maria DiLivio racked up 12 kills for the winners.
Junior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) continued to play well, finishing with a match-high 53 assists to go along with eight digs and three service winners. As a team, Maryland finished with seven service aces.
Duke's Ashley Harris finished with a match-best 17 kills in the loss for the Blue Devils.
The Terps return to action tomorrow at Ritchie Coliseum vs. Wake Forest. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
