COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Like most astute followers of college football, ESPN's Mel Kiper is pegging Maryland's Ralph Friedgen as this year's national Coach of the Year.

In his maiden season as a head coach, all Friedgen has done is guide the Terps to 10 wins in 11 games and the school's first ACC grid title since 1985.
