Terps Top Clemson In ACC Volleyball Action

The Maryland women's volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak by defeating Clemson (3-1) 30-24, 30-18, 27-30, 30-21, Friday night in ACC volleyball action at Ritchie Coliseum. The win was the second of the year over Clemson for Maryland and the team's third straight in the series.

The Terps had three players in double-figures for kills led by All-ACC candidate Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.). The junior outside hitter led all players with 24 kills and added a team-best 15 digs and four blocks to lead the Terps to the four-game victory.

Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) also had a big night for the Terps. DiLivio smacked 17 kills and hit .333 for the match as the Terps as a team hit .325. DiLivio also chipped in with 11 digs and two blocks in a strong all-around effort.

Two other All-ACC candidates for the Terps, senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) and junior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) also played well. Dority led all players with a .480 hitting percentage and blasted 13 kills to go with three blocks while Davey led all players with 56 assists while also producing eight digs.

Ryane Beasley led Clemson with 16 kills and seven digs in a losing effort.

The victory improved Maryland to 11-12 overall and 7-8 in the ACC. Clemson fell to 9-16 on the year and 3-12 in conference play. The Terps will look to finish the regular season at .500 overall and in the ACC tomorrow when they host Georgia Tech on Senior Day. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. and is the final game for Maryland volleyball at Ritchie Coliseum.
