Furman's Paladin golf team is in the lead after one round of the 32nd annual Furman Intercollegiate, scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course.
The Paladins carded a three-under 285 as a team and hold a three stroke lead over Virginia Commonwealth, which is in second at 288. Maryland holds down the third spot at 290, while Virginia Tech, the 12th-ranked team in the nation, is in fourth after a first-round 292.
Individually, Old Dominion's Michael Hospodar and Wofford's William McGirt are tied atop the leaderboard at four under, with Furman's Kirk Satterfield and Maryland's John Moheyer tied for third after shooting 69. With two rounds to play, there are 18 players within four strokes of the lead.
Round two of the Furman Intercollegiate is slated for an 8 a.m. start off holes one and 10 on Saturday.
