POSTCARDS FROM TOULON

Each day we will send out a postcard from one of the members of the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team that is in Toulon, France, competing in the 29th Toulon Festival.

Today's postcard is from defender ... PHILIP SALYER

This is my first time in France, and I have been impressed so far. From what little I have seen, the country looks beautiful, and it seems that we are staying in a real nice area. The plane ride over was really long, and I had a real tough time getting to sleep. I think everyone is still a little tired from the flight.

It was nice to finally get here and get out to the practice field. Our first couple of sessions went really well and everyone is excited to get out there and play. This is a great tournament, and we've seen the commercials and the posters for it all over town. One of the stadiums is right outside of our hotel and it looks really cool. Tonight we peeked over the fence and checked the stadium out - it looks real nice. The field has stands all around it and it seems like it holds a lot of people.

The city we are in, Toulon, is really nice. The hotel is not too bad, and the area where we are staying is great. There are a lot of nice, little shops around, and we are pretty close to the beach. The food at the hotel has not been the best, but we'll survive. Luckily there is a McDonalds and a Chinese restaurant right next door to our hotel. The weather has been great, which has been a nice break from back home.

Everyone is looking forward to getting out there and playing the games. We are playing a lot of cards at night to pass the time, because we are having a tough time getting to sleep because of the time change. I think in the next couple of days we will get used to it. Everyone is just really ready to get the tournament started. We'll get our chance in two days. I can't wait.
