Box Score

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Sophomore outside hitter Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) tied a career-high with 19 kills but it was not enough as Georgetown defeated Maryland in four games (30-28, 17-30, 30-27, 30-21) Tuesday evening at Ritchie Coliseum.

Georgetown was led all night long by senior outside hitter Yulia Vtyurina. Vtyurina smacked a match-high 22 kills and recorded 10 digs to help guide the Hoyas to the victory.

After losing the opening game 30-28, the Terps stormed back to even the match at one game apiece by winning the second frame, 30-17. DiLivio and junior outside hitter Carey Brennan (Smithsburg, Md.) led the Terps in game two as the team hit .441 for the game.

Brennan and the Terrapins could not keep the momentum going as the Hoyas won the final two games of the match, 30-27 and 30-21.

The Terps used a balanced attack as four players had double-digit kills. DiLivio led the way with 19 and Brennan added 13 while sophomore right side Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, Calif.) chipped in with 13 kills and senior middle hitter Willette Dority (Congers, N.Y.) finished with 10. It was the second time this season that DiLivio tallied 19 kills, tying her career best set earlier in the season against Bowling Green at the Blimpie/Holiday Inn Classic.

Junior setter Lindsay Davey (Aurora, Colo.) handed out a season-high 54 assists, eight digs and three service aces in the loss for the Terps. Jones also had a strong night serving with five service winners.

With the victory, Georgetown improved to 3-4 and the Terps fell to 3-4. The loss snapped the Terrapins' three-game winning streak after completing a three-game sweep at the B&G Properties Invitational.

Maryland returns to the court at defending ACC champion North Carolina Friday (Sept. 21) at 7 p.m. in the Terps' first ACC match of the season.
