CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- Defending ACC champion North Carolina won its second straight conference match of the season Friday night by spoiling Maryland's ACC opener, defeating the Terps in three games 18-30, 16-30, 21-30.
For the Terps, sophomore Maria DiLivio (Hamilton, Ontario) led the way with nine kills and 10 digs. Sophomore right side Lynnsy Jones (Castro Valley, N.C.) contributed eight kills and six digs while freshman setter Aimee Huddleston (Keller, Texas) recorded a team-high 12 assists.
North Carolina's Laura Green paced a balanced Tar Heel attack with nine kills and two blocks while Holly Strauss chipped in with seven kills and eight blocks.
With the loss, the Terps fall to 3-5 on the season and 0-1 in the ACC. Carolina improved to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Terrapins are back in action Saturday at NC State. Maryland will look for its first ACC victory of the season beginning at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum.
