Aiken, S.C. -
The University of Maryland men's golf team sits in 12th place after the first two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Championships at the par-71 Palmetto Golf Club. The Terps completed the first day of competition at 20-over-par after shooting 296-292 in the first two rounds for a team total of 588.
Virginia Tech leads the 15-team field at 10-under-par (283-275-558). South Florida is three shots back at 561 while Texas-Arlington's total of 569 leaves it in third place at one-over-par.
Senior Corey Brigham (Rumson, N.J.) tied for the field's lowest second-round score with a 67. The four-under-par round matches his second-lowest score of the 2001-02 season and marks his first sub-par round of the spring season after five such rounds in the fall. Brigham's total of 73-67-140 leaves him in a tie for ninth place individually.
Virginia Tech's Johnson Wagner leads the individual competition at seven-under-par (64-71-135). He holds a two-stroke lead over teammate Brendon De Jonge and South Florida's Tele Wightman.
Among the Terps' other scores, junior John Moheyer stands in a tie for 39th at 146 after matching two-over-par rounds of 73. Junior Pete Toole is tied for 47th with a total of 149 (74-75), freshman Bobby MacWhinnie is tied for 69th with a 153 total (76-77) and sophomore Tim Kane sits in 73rd place at 155.
