ATLANTA - The University of Maryland women's volleyball team (13-4, 2-1 ACC) fell to No. 5 Georgia Tech, 3-1, in O'Keefe Gymnasium Friday night. The Terps, who won the second game of the match, are the only unranked team to win a game against the Yellow Jackets this season. With the win, Georgia Tech remains undefeated and improves to 14-0, 3-0 in conference play.

The first game was tightly contested, as there were 11 ties including eight straight knots from 11-11 to 18-18. From there, Georgia Tech took a 21-18 lead, forcing the Terps to take a timeout. After two ensuing points by the Yellow Jackets, Maryland pulled back to within three with two consecutive kills by Lynnsy Jones. But the Terrapins, despite hitting .385 as a team, would get no closer and drop the first game, 30-25.

The Terps battled back to even the match with a hard fought and intense second game victory. At 29-29, the 20th tie of the game, Maryland went up by one point in a rally that included junior outside hitter Sarah Treadwell kicking the ball to keep it alive and an eventual kill by Jones. The Terps went on to win game two, 34-32. The squad showed why they are at the top of the conference in blocking, compiling seven total team blocks in the second game alone.

The Yellow Jackets came back strong to take game three, 30-22, behind a team attack percentage of .409 and would clinch the match by winning game four, 30-20.

Jones led Maryland with 19 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Rachel Wagener posted her second consecutive double double with 12 kills and 12 blocks and hit .667. Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Smith was also in double figures for the Terps, contributing 12 kills.

Juniors Maria DiLivio and Sarah Treadwell led the team in digs with 18 and 15, respectively. DiLivio also had 9 kills and Treadwell notched eight. Junior setter Aimee Huddleston handed out 50 assists on the night, and added seven blocks and five kills.

Leading the Yellow Jackets was Lynette Moster, who had 24 kills and 20 digs.

The Terrapins are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers at 6:00 p.m.
