The University of Maryland volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit to defeat Florida State, 3-2 (27-30, 22-30, 30-27, 30-20, 18-16), Friday night in Tallahassee. The Terrapins secured a second-place finish in the ACC and head coach Janice Kruger earned her 300th career victory at Maryland. Maryland concluded its regular season at 23-7 overall, 12-4 in the ACC, while Florida State fell to 14-15, 4-11 in the conference.
Senior Lynnsy Jones had 16 kills, 16 digs, four aces and three blocks to lead the Terrapins, while reserve outside hitter Jennifer Dewalt had a standout performance with 10 kills, three blocks and team-high .333 attack percentage. Sarah Treadwell registered a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Maryland lost games one and two as they struggled with team attack percentages of .184 and .000, respectively. The comeback began in game three when they dispatched the Seminoles, 30-27, and continued in game four with a 30-20 victory.
In the decisive fifth game, the Terps fell behind, 3-0, but rallied behind Jones' serve (two fifth-game aces) to earn an 11-4 lead. Although the Seminoles tied it again at 15 and had a match point at 15-16, Maryland clinched the match with an 18-16 victory.
Stephanie Smith had 10 kills and a team-high seven blocks.
Leading the Seminoles was Amanda Santos with 10 kills and 13 blocks and Nikki Anthony with 17 kills.
Maryland finished regular season play and has a week to prepare for the ACC tournament in Orlando, Fla., which begins Nov. 20.
