The Maryland Terrapins (7-8) concluded their 2003 Buzz Classic tournament with a 2-1 loss to Tennessee Tech. Maryland ended the tournament with wins against Western Kentucky and Troy State, while dropping an extra-inning contest to ACC rival Georgia Tech.
Sophomore Crystal Tweedy (Dumfries, Va.) led the Terps offense with a perfect day at the plate (3-for-3) and drove in Maryland's only run. The run was set up when Crystal Rizzuto (San Leandro, Calif.) singled with one out. Two batters later, Nneka Cardoza (Brockton, Mass.) walked to put runners at first and second. Rizzuto then scored on Tweedy's two-out single.
Tennessee Tech came back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run off a double by center fielder Stephanie Dallmann. Dallmann scored the go-ahead run on a Terrapin fielding miscue.
Jessica Aditays (Shrewsbury, Mass.) moves to 4-4 on the season after pitching two innings in the contest. Monica Cyphert (Warren, Ohio) pitched effectively during the remaining four innings, striking out three and allowing only three hits.
The Terps will take on the No. 16 Florida State Seminoles (23-9) in Tallahassee, Fla. on Tuesday. This doubleheader will be Maryland's first ACC tilt of the season. The game will be televised by the Sunshine Network in the Tallahassee area. You can also track the game online at www.seminoles.com.
