COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team and head coach Gina LaMandre announced Wednesday the signing of Meredith Nelles and Amanda D'Attilio to National Letters of Intent to play for the Terrapins beginning in 2006.

Nelles, hailing from Wilmington, Del., is a pitcher/infielder/outfielder and will come to the Terps from Brandywine High School. Playing under coach Walter Hagelstein, Nelles is a two-time first-team all-state pitcher in 2003 and 2004. Her team finished with a record of 19-2 while Nelles set the single-season record for strikeouts with 262 in 2004. Nelles also holds the single-season RBI and doubles record (set in 2003).

D'Attilio, a right fielder out of Woodbridge, Va., will come to the Terrapins from CD Hylton High School. Playing under coach Desiree Hayden, D'Attilio was CD Hylton's Most Valuable Player in 2004 and also earned Cardinal District Player of the Year. She was a first team Northwest Region and a Washington Post first team all-extra, in addition to being named to the all-area team by the Potomac News and Northern Virginia Journal.
