Garey Earns Conference, National Honors

Sept. 13, 2004

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland men's soccer player Jason Garey was honored as the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week and the College Soccer News national player of the week for his performance at the Maryland/adidas Classic this past weekend. He scored five goals and added an assist in two games and was named co-MVP of the tournament along with teammate Abe Thompson after leading the Terps to a pair of victories.

Garey recorded his first career hat trick against No. 2 St. John's while adding an assist on a Thompson goal in the first half. The junior forward got the Terps on the board first as he scored in just 58 seconds to start the game. He added his fifth and sixth goals of the season in the second half to seal the victory for Maryland and lead the Terrapins to the 5-2 win over the Red Storm. The seven points garnered by Garey against the Red Storm was a career high.

In Sunday's 4-2 win over Georgetown, Garey posted two more goals to help lead the Terrapins past the Hoyas. The Gonzalez, La., native gave Maryland its first lead of the game in the 38th minute when he found the back of the net for his first goal of the afternoon. After Georgetown had cut the lead to 3-2, Garey responded with his second goal of the game in the 69th minute off a pass from Chris Lancos to solidify the victory for the Terps.

Garey and the Terrapins are back in action this week as they host Loyola on Wednesday and then travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a Sunday conference matchup against the Wolfpack of NC State.
