COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 1 Maryland Terrapins will look to get back into the win column this Saturday night at Ludwig Field against No. 13 Duke. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. In their last outing, the Terps (5-1-1) lost to William & Mary, 1-0, while the Blue Devils (8-0-0) defeated East Carolina 3-2 on Wednesday.

GameTracker will be available on www.umterps.com, as well as live audio on www.wmucsports.com.

    Noteworthy
    • Maryland is winless in its last two games for the first time since 2001 when the Terps lost back-to-back matches against North Carolina and Princeton. The last time the Terps went three games without a win was also during that 2001 season when the team lost to Loyola and Duke, and tied Wake Forest.
    • Dating back to the beginning of the 2003 season, Maryland has lost just four times. All four of those losses have been by a score of 1-0.
    • The last time the Terps lost a game in overtime was in 2001, when they were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Loyola, 1-0.
    • The Terps may not be getting the goals they were earlier in the season, but it's not for lack of effort. In both the tie to NC State and the loss to William & Mary, Maryland got off a total of 39 shots and had an advantage in that category in both of those games. The opposing goalies have been forced to save a total of 15 shots, meaning over 40 percent of Maryland's shots have been on frame.
Jason Garey, the nation's leader in points as of Sept. 20, was held without a goal against the Tribe for the first time this season.
    • Maryland is 30-1-0 over the past two-plus seasons at Ludwig Field. This season, the Terps are outscoring opponents 18-4 and outshooting opponents an average of 24-7 through three games.
    • The last ACC team to win at Ludwig Field was Virginia in 2001. Duke's last win at Ludwig Field came in 2000, a 2-0 win for the Blue Devils.
    • Duke allowed its first goals of the season on Wednesday to East Carolina. The Blue Devils have now outscored their opponents by a margin of 28-2. Duke has not trailed in any game this season.
    • The Blue Devils started freshman Justin Papadakis in goal against the Pirates on Wednesday, meaning that reigning ACC Player of the Week Justin Trowbridge has still yet to surrender a score this season.
    • The game against Duke begins a taunting stretch for the Terps in which four of their next five opponents will be ranked (according to the Sept. 20 NSCAA poll). Thirteenth-ranked Duke, No. 23 Wake Forest, No. 21 Villanova, and No. 8 Penn State are all coming up within the next three weeks for Maryland. The lone team that is not ranked in the next five games is North Carolina, team that was considered one of the top five teams in the country when the season started. According to the most recent NSCAA poll, seven Terp opponents are ranked among the nation's top 25, including No. 13 Duke. Maryland is 1-0 against ranked opponents in 2004 (a 5-2 win over then-No. 2 St. John's).
    • Maryland is 6-2-1 all-time as the No.1-ranked team in the nation.
Up Next: The Terps will not have a mid-week game and will take the field again on the road at No. 23 Wake Forest next Saturday, Oct. 2. Maryland will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 6, against BIG EAST conference foe and 21st-ranked Villanova.

    Scouting The Blue Devils
    • As of Sept. 21, Duke is a perfect 7-0 on the year. In those seven games, Duke did not allow a goal.
    • The Blue Devils breezed through the opening part of the season, outscoring their opponents 25-0. Duke's toughest games were one-goal decisions against Columbia and Clemson.
    • Duke's 10 goals against Emory & Henry are the second most in the NCAA this season.
    • Josh Swank leads the team in goals with six. Swank has come off the bench for the Blue Devils in the first seven games.
    • Blake Camp and Danny Cramer also have double-digit points for Duke this year. Camp has four goals and three assists (11 points) while Kramer has three goals and a team-high five assists (11 points).
    • Fourteen different players have scored either a goal or assist for Duke this season.
    • Justin Trowbridge, the Sept. 20 ACC Player of the Week, has logged the majority of the minutes in goal for the Blue Devils. Trowbridge has yet to allow a goal on the season in 495 minutes.

DURHAM, N.C. -- Abe Thompson scored a goal and added an assist as the No.1 men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Duke in a hard-fought match Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.

The Terps shutout their opponent for the sixth time in seven matches this season. For the season, Maryland has allowed just one goal in 630 minutes this season.

"It was good to win in someone's back yard, and if you want to be a championship team you have to win games like this" head coach Sasho Cirovski said of his team's first road win of the season (Maryland's wins away from Ludwig Field have been at neutral sites). "We were able to get some goals early and put the game away."

The match was without a flow in the early going as play was interrupted 35 times in the first half due to fouls (17 on Maryland, 18 on Duke). In the game, 55 fouls were called and seven cards were issued.

Thompson got the Terps on the board in the seventh minute with his fourth goal on the year after he put a free kick from the top of the box and put it in the upper left corner of the goal. Thompson took the free kick after Scott Buete made a run towards the goal and was pulled down by a Duke defender.

"That was a world-class free kick by Abe," Cirovski commented. Thompson had a part in the second goal as well working to the right corner of the field before sending a cross that Domenic Mediate headed in to give Maryland the 2-0 cushion.

Duke had a few good offensive opportunities in the first half bringing Terp keeper Noah Palmer out away from the net, but could not convert. The Terps beared down defensively in the second half allowing just three shots and forcing the Blue Devils to settle mostly for long-range shots.

"In the second half, we changed the way we played and we wanted to try and counter some of the action and get more compact," Cirovski said.
