In the first game, NC State took a 10-6 lead when the Terps started to control the net. Maryland took advantage of five Wolfpack attack errors in a 9-2 run that gave the Terps a five-point lead. NC State led 16-15 when Maryland went on an 11-1 run. Gillming and Smith had a pair of kills each in the late stages of that rally. Five different Terps had at least two kills in the opening game, led by four each from Wagener and Smith.
The second game had a similar feel, as NC State took early leads of 12-9 and 15-11 before the Terps were able to pull even at 17-17. Schmelzle had a pair of kills and a block, and Wagner had two kills as Maryland went ahead 22-17. The `Pack came within 22-19, but could come no closer as Smith's fifth kill of the game ended that game at 30-22.
Maryland streaked to leads of 7-1, 10-3 and 13-5 in the second game. The Terps' edge was never less than seven points the rest of the way, as Schmelzle had four kills and eight digs in the final game.
Maryland forced the Wolfpack into 28 attack errors in the match, and held a 48-33 edge in kills.
