COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland men's soccer team is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will receive a first-round bye, as announced by the NCAA today. Ludwig Field will be the site for any game that Maryland plays in until the national semifinals, which will be held in Cary, N.C.

Since the NCAA began seeding teams in 1995, it is the first time Maryland has ever been the No. 1 seed.

Maryland will face the winner of Brown and Rhode Island on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. Brown earned at-large berth into the tournament while Rhode Island earned its bid by winning the Atlantic 10 conference tournament.

The Terps are a top four seed for the fourth consecutive year. Maryland has advanced to the College Cup in each of the past three seasons.

"It's a testament to the results against the kind of schedule we played this year," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "There are 48 quality teams in this tournament, and we are going to have to be at our best each time we play in order to advance."

A record eight teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference earned bids on Tuesday. North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, NC State, Duke earned top 16 seeds and first round byes, while Clemson and Wake Forest also earned invites but will play in the first round.
