  • Maryland (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) looks for its fifth win in the last six games against Western Carolina in non-conference action...The Terps are 3-0 at home this season and have won 24 consecutive non-conference home games at the Comcast Center...Maryland is 111-2 in non-conference home games under head coach Gary Williams...Tonight's game is the eighth contest for the Terps in the first 19 days of the season.

  • Maryland is averaging 85.9 points per game, which leads the ACC. The Terps also lead the conference with 18.0 assists per contest...The Terps are averaging 47.7 points in the second half his season and are outscoring opponents by 10.0 points per game after halftime...Maryland has shot 55.0% in the second half the last five games...At least four Terps have scored in double figures in all five 7 games, including six vs. Fairleigh Dickinson.

  • Senior forward Travis Garrison recently became the 33rd member of the 500-rebound club at Maryland following his 18-point, 10-rebound performance against Minnesota. Garrison, who leads the team with 7.3 boards per game, also grabbed 10 rebounds vs. George Washington and has led the team in rebounding four straight games...Senior guard Chris McCray has scored in double figures in all seven games this season and 21-of-22 contests dating back to last season. McCray currently ranks 10th on the ACC active career scoring list with 985 points. For the season, McCray leads the Terps with 17.1 ppg, while ranking second on the squad with 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per contest...Junior guard D.J. Strawberry leads the ACC with 5.3 assists per game and is averaging 8.0 assists the last three contests...Senior forward Nik Caner-Medley needs just four rebounds for 500 for his career.

  • The Terps are 1-0 all-time vs. Western Carolina. Maryland defeated the Catamounts, 113-46, in their only meeting Nov. 14, 1998 at Cole Field House. The 67-point margin of victory was the second-largest in school history. The Terps are 13-2 all-time against members of the Southern Conference. Maryland was an original member of the Southern Conference, which was founded in 1921, but left in 1953 when the ACC was formed.

  • The Catamounts are 5-5 on the season following an 80-64 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday. WCU hit a school-record 14 three-pointers in the game. They have won three straight and four of their last five games after opening the season 1-4...Western Carolina has played 10 games in the first 25 days this season...Sophomore guard Antonio Russell leads the team with 15.4 points per game, while senior center David Berghoefer leads the squad with 6.0 rebounds per contest.

  • Larry Hunter (Ohio, 1971) is in his first season as head coach at Western Carolina. For his career, he is 514-229 in 26 seasons, which ranks 59th among Division I coaches. Hunter spent the last four seasons as an assistant at NC State after 12 years as head coach at Ohio University. He led Ohio to the 1994 NCAA Tournament and coached current NBA forward Gary Trent.
