Maryland (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) opens Atlantic Coast Conference play against league newcomer No.6 Boston College Sunday at 8 p.m. at Comcast Center. The game will be broadcast nationally as part of the ACC Sunday night Hoops package on FSN with Tim Brando, Mike Gminski and Charles Davis on the call. Senior forward Travis Garrison came through again for the Terps in his second start of the season. Garrison, who is averaging 15.7 points and 11.3 rebounds the last three games, scored a career-best 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Maryland to an 87-57 win over Western Carolina on Wednesday. The Terps dominated the Catamounts in the second half outscoring them 48-22, including 12 second-half points by Ekene Ibekwe. Maryland outrebounded WCU, 49-20, and committed just 9 turnovers while dishing out 16 assists. Nik Caner-Medley added 8 points and a season-best 10 rebounds as he became the 26th Terp to record 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.
Maryland vs. Boston College
Maryland is 3-1 all-time vs. Boston College dating back to the first meeting in the NCAA Tournament at Madison Square Garden in 1958. The Terps have not played the Eagles since the 1990 ACC-Big East Challenge, a 100-85 BC win. Gary Williams was the head coach at Boston College from 1982-86, where he helped lead the Eagles to a 76-45 record and two NCAA Regional Semifinal appearances. Maryland assistant coach Michael Adams played 3 of his 4 seasons for Williams at Boston College (1981-85), graduating as the program's 5th-leading scorer (1,650 pts). Adams had his jersey retired by BC in 1999.

Head coach Gary Williams is the Atlantic Coast Conference's second-winningest active coach (5th overall) with a 340-180 (.654) record as the Terps' mentor, while also ranking second among active ACC coaches (4th overall) with 139 conference wins. Williams is the 11th-winningest active coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball with an overall record of 547-308 (.640). He is just 9 wins shy of becoming Maryland's all-time winningest basketball coach (Charles "Lefty" Driesell, 348-159 from 1969-86).
